As the company grew, Jim knew he wanted to do even more—to give back something more valuable than money to the people who had made American Century Investments' success possible.
Motivated by his and his wife Virginia's experience with cancer, they founded the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. They created a $2 billion endowment for the Institute, including a 40% equity ownership stake in American Century Investments.
Since 2000, the company has distributed $1.6 billion in dividends to the Institute, which has become a world-class biomedical research organization focused on unlocking the secrets to life-threatening diseases, like cancer.
Building a Strong Company and Community, One Dollar at a Time
American Century Investments' employees carry on Jim's vision for the company. While our professional goal is to provide superior service and investment results to our clients, that spirit of service extends to our personal lives, too.
We're proud to support our employees' active engagement in their communities. Through our Dollars for Donors program, we recognize and matches employees' volunteer time and financial contributions. In 2019, the American Century Investments Foundation has gave almost $2 million in grants to our employees' favorite causes and community organizations.
